Floatex Solar, in collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited (BHEL), is developing a 22 MW floating solar power facility on a reservoir in Kayamkulam, Kerala. This initiative, owned by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), represents a significant advancement in renewable energy deployment. By using floating solar technology, this initiative not only generates clean energy but also saves valuable land and reduces water evaporation.
The solar facility is meticulously segmented into six blocks, each varying in size, allowing for a tailored approach that maximizes energy capture and efficiency. This strategic division not only optimizes the use of space on the water surface but also ensures a resilient structure capable of withstanding various environmental conditions. By employing state-of-the-art technology and leveraging the unique advantages of floating solar panels—such as reduced water evaporation and lower ambient temperatures—this initiative is expected to deliver enhanced performance and reliability.
As this 22MW floating solar plant comes to fruition, it not only promises to meet the growing energy demands of Kerala but also sets a precedent for sustainable development across the globe, reinforcing the critical role of renewable sources in achieving energy security and environmental conservation.
